Potluck Productions has lost it’s lease for the 2010 Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival. While this may seem like a sad thing on the surface, on the contrary it is a good thing. The space we use to produce the Festival will soon be undergoing a major renovation to expand the performance space, actor dressing rooms, and the box office. Unfortunately we will not be able to produce the Festival in 2010, but we are already planning the 2011 Festival.
We continue to accept submissions for the next Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival. The Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival is open to all female playwrights writing in English, including students enrolled in a BFA or MFA playwriting program. In a strictly juried selection process, six to ten plays will be chosen to appear at the festival. Special attention is given to emerging Kansas City area writers.
The Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival was first produced in 1995 by Potluck Productions to create more opportunities for emerging female playwrights to produce their work. The company’s goal is to produce an annual festival highlighting the best in new scripts by local (and occasionally national) female playwrights. The first production premiered at the Theatre for Young America and was invited for encore presentation at both Johnson County Community College and Penn Valley Community College. Since then, Potluck Productions has produced festivals around the Kansas City metropolitan area.
