Potluck Productions is always looking for original scripts from women playwrights for inclusion in upcoming festivals. If you are interested in submitting a script for consideration, the following information will explain what we are looking for and how to make a submission.
Please mail two (2) paper copies of your script, a show synopsis, resume, and cover letter to the address noted below. At this time, only snail mail submissions will be accepted. Electronic submissions are not allowed.
Send submissions to:
Potluck Productions
7338 Belleview
Kansas City, MO 64114
Enclose two (2) SASE envelopes or postcards. One will be used to acknowledge receipt of your submission and the other to tell you the result of the judging.
Scripts will not be returned. If you would like your play returned, please include a SASE envelope large enough to contain the submission. Be sure there is adequate postage.
Special attention is given to emerging Kansas City area writers.
Submissions must be postmarked by September 1, 2010 for consideration in the 2011 Festival. Entries postmarked after that date will be held for consideration in the 2012 Festival.
The Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival is open to any female playwright, although submissions must be in English.
Scripts should be short plays or monologues that have not been previously published.
Estimated playing time for each script should be not less than 10 minutes and not more than 20 minutes.
Scripts must be clearly typed on bond paper, double-spaced, and with wide margins. Pages must be numbered, include the name of the play, and the be securely bound.
To ensure anonymity during the reading process, no personal information should appear anywhere on the submitted script. Personal information should be included only on the cover letter, including name, address, daytime and evening telephone numbers, and email address.
While all reasonable care will be taken, Potluck Productions does not accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to, submitted scripts.
Authors must guarantee that they have sole rights to all matter contained within the script.
By submitting a piece for consideration to the festival, the playwright agrees that Potluck Productions may produce the script during the festival. Furthermore, the playwright agrees to waive any royalty for the production of the piece in the festival. Additionally, the playwright grants Potluck Productions exclusive production rights to the piece within 100 miles of Kansas City for the duration of the Festival.
The committees’ decision is final and no correspondence concerning the results can be entered into.
Six to ten plays will be chosen to appear at the festival.
By December 31, all playwrights who made submission will be notified, in writing, of their script’s inclusion or exclusion from the festival.
Plays will undergo 4 weeks of rehearsal before receiving a fully staged production. Playwrights will be allowed to attend several rehearsals during the 4 weeks prior to production. Rewrites during this time will be allowed at the discretion of the festival’s director.
At the end of the rehearsal process, plays will experience a 2 - 3 week full-production run in front of an audience. Because of the nature of the Festival, unit sets will be used (unit sets indicate changes in location by use of lighting or slight alterations in the set pieces). But, in all other aspects (lights, sound, costumes, etc.), each playwright will have the opportunity to see her piece professionally produced.
